In other news....

In my ramblings yesterday, I forgot a few things (and added a few pictures to yesterday's post too, so check it out) that I remembered while trying (key word here) to clean off my desktop (since I am down to 10 GB...yikes).

One of my more exciting moments in the last month (OK, so maybe I'm not that exciting) was the discovery of my photo published in the HOW Magazine Design Annual (well, actually it was the Ringling catalog that won accolades, but they chose the spread with my piece to showcase in the magazine) quite by accident. It happens to be one of my favorite magazines (you should check it out www.howmagazine.com) and I get as excited as a little school girl on the last day of school when the design annual comes out. So anyway, I was looking through it and all of the sudden I saw my picture on one of the pages! So cool. However, they neglected to give me the artist credit next to my image, which was a bit of a bummer. I did request the correction for next months issue, and they agreed (and were very nice about it by the way - yay HOW staff), so look out for it (I'm not sure if it will be just my name, or an image representation).

(bottom right corner, photo of the lovely Taylor Lewis, cousin, muse, and model extraordinaire).

After discovering this, it made me wonder what else was out there that I didn't know about, so of course, praise the Internet, I Googled my name, and low and behold, I've been published a lot more then I knew. One of my favorites was on the Ringling website (www.ringling.edu) which told about the selection process of my "Taylor" image for the cover of "Creative Loafing" last year. I'd never even heard that story! By the way, you'll find that this image has been popping up everywhere (especially if you are local) - apparently any work you create at Ringling - or art school in general - becomes theirs to use for what ever promotional purposes they see fit - which I will never complain about. In fact, I am quite proud that they choose to use this for advertisements all over the world - Tay and I are semi-famous!

I have also been doing volunteer work for the Heart Gallery of Sarasota (www.heartgallerysarasota.org) which you will find a link to on www.joodcreative.com and on my Facebook page. This is an awesome organization, which my dear friend Peter Acker got me involved in, photographing children who are up for adoption. Peter puts his heart and soul into this project, and for that he is my hero. Please take the time to go to the website and check out the stories and photos of these amazing children (and see if you can guess which one I photographed...it shouldn't be hard if you know me). There are so many kids out there who need homes.

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, we do photo restoration and custom invitations...here's an example where I combined the two for a birthday invitation (which just happens to be for my Grandpa, so I may be slightly partial in my love for this one). The tag line is from his favorite song, and the picture is actually of him (he'll kill me for posting this on the Internet, but Grandpa, it's a good payback...) about 30+ years ago. If you ever wondered where my keen fashion sense comes from, now you know! Contact information has been changed to protect the innocent.

I think it's so much more fun and personal than the boring store-bought kind. It's handy to have a photographer/designer/artist extraordinaire in the family. My Grandma got a huge kick out of this (and as I said, paybacks, Grandpa) but made me promise not to make one for her (I had my fingers crossed behind my back, just for the record).

Anyway, if you are interested in having something similar made for your next gathering, or as stationery or custom greeting cards, etc, let me know. I love doing this kind of thing. Seriously. Check out the ones I did for a private client (photographs too) for the holidays this year...(these were so fun to shoot and design, by the way)...

OK, that's more than enough information for two days. Lets see how good I am at keeping this up - no promises, but I think I may be on a roll.

April in the Land of Jood

While I can list a million creative excuses as to why I haven't written anything since February, I'll go for the honest approach - I've just plain been busy. A quick synopsis to catch you up on what's been going on in Jood-Land...we've photographed some weddings and engagement photos, covered a few events, done some fashion and advertising work, and even had a few birthdays (mom - aka Diane had her birthday this month, and my not so little puppy turned 1 yesterday). I also had the opportunity to attend a film premier for the movie "The Messenger" at the Sarasota Film Festival (a strange turn of events brought about by Willie Nelson, Kermit the Frog, the song "Rainbow Connection," and my boyfriend Eric...long story) with VIP access to a private party with the cast and crew, including Woody Harrelson, Ben Foster, Jena Malone, and Lawerence Inglee (the producer, and fellow "Rainbow Connection" fan). Needless to say, it was an amazing time, and we (Eric & I) got to pretend to be rock stars for an evening.

I've also been working with an amazing artist, Pat Kaufman (www.patkaufman.com) on designing books and promotional materials for her work, and even working on my own book (on adventures throughout coastal California), which hopefully will be completed and available for purchase by July (after my next adventure west - special note to California people - I will be back sometime in May).

I have a few things in the works right now, including the launch of Jood Jewelry - an extension of Jood Creative. The Etsy account should be up and running in the next few weeks, and I will include a link to it as soon as I have it set up. In the meantime, you can see a picture of some of the necklaces I have created here (beads are all natural materials, precious & semi-precious stones, wood, and recycled glass, and the center pieces were all collected on my different adventures throughout America - made by local American artists), and I can custom create anything your heart desires. I've been meaning to do this for years (after numerous requests to buy the necklaces right off of my neck), but to be honest, I have a really hard time parting with things, and have only given a few as gifts, or made custom pieces by request. I fall in love with every piece I make, and I'm hoping you will too. It's time to share (I am the youngest child - we have a hard time with sharing, you know).

As far as photography goes, we're about to spring into summer, which means there are weddings to be had, babies to be born, mothers and fathers to celebrate, events and parties, graduations, frolicking pets, and memories to be made. So while you are planning for your summer, don't forget to ask yourself what Jood can do for you.

Here are a few suggestions just to get you thinking:

-Photo collages or books with old and new family photos, custom designed into works of art (I made my mom 2 - 16x20 collages after my grandparents died, filled with letters, photos, and mementos from their lives, lacquer transferred onto heavyweight fine art paper - these make for an amazing mother's day or father's day present).

-Photo restoration and reprints of your kids for graduation, your mom or dad as children, or better yet, of their parents (I did this for my grandparents a few years back, and it still brings tears...brownie points with the family for years to come, super brownie points if you do it for the in-laws).

-Puppy pictures - printed on fine art paper and framed, or printed onto canvas, they are the perfect way to put art on your walls that you will never tire of. I especially love to photograph their cute little noses - how can you not love a puppy nose? (P.S. this is my beloved Bubbs...aka Bubbalub the Wonder Bear)

-Wedding, birthday, and party invitations - custom designed to reflect your personality and style (I'm not just a photographer, you know).

-Room staging/photography/real estate services - let me help you sell your house by freshening up the interior with design services and tips, artistically photographing your house for your real estate listing, or better yet, let Diane (aka Mom) sell it for you (she's licensed in Florida www.dianesfloridahomes.com)

(All interior design, photography, and flyer design by me)

-Make-up lesson, application, and a photo session for your teenager (an instant confidence boost for that horribly awkward age...come on, we all remember it)

I could list a million more, but I guess I'll give your eyes a break. It's been so long, that apparently I had a lot to say.

I will end today's blog with a product junkie tip of the day:

LUSH
www.lush.com

I can not tell you how much I love this company. All natural and mostly vegan body care products, I have been a dedicated "lushie" for quite some time. With summer coming, you want to make your skin and hair happy. My recommendations are as follows (although I would buy everything if I could): Ultra Bland - the world's best make-up remover and skin softener/cleanser, you just smoosh a little bit all over your face, and wipe with a warm washcloth. Don't freak out by the greasy feel, it doesn't clog pores. Sandstone soap - smells like lemons and scrubs away all the yuck.

Ok...seriously....that's it...for now.

Welcome to Jood-Land!

After weeks of hunting through a sea of external hard drives to dig up images, countless fights with Dreamweaver, and night after night of website dreams, our www.joodcreative.com website is finally live!!!!!! Well, there are still a few kinks to work out, but needless to say, the happy dance has made an appearance.

I am still new to this whole blog thing - having refused to blog for quite some time because I just wasn't ready to step that far into the internet commitment, but I am so full of adventures, stories, thoughts and ideas, and products to share (I am a product junkie, and you will find occasional posts with said title when the mood strikes me) that I couldn't resist once we started up Jood Creative to actually blog about what's going on in the "Land of Jood."

So welcome to Jood-Land. I hope you enjoy your stay.

**Product Junkie tip of the day** You may notice on our website's link page, there is a link to Vital Tea Leaf. For quite some time now, I have been adventuring out to San Francisco regularly, and fallen in love with this little tea house in Chinatown. Everytime I am there, I pop in and see John, tea taste, and come home with an obscene amount of tea. I am addicted. So if you are browsing though their website, my suggestions are as follows: Wild Lion Puerh tea (so good for you), Apple Ginseng Oolong tea (unbelievably tasty), Lychee Black tea, and of course, their famous push button tea strainer. This thing rocks.

Have a jood-a-licious day.
